UKRAINE: POLAND TRAINED PUTCHISTS TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE
by Thierry Meyssan
VOLTAIRE NETWORK | DAMASCUS | 19 APRIL 2014
Lies have shorter and shorter legs. Two months after the change of regime in Kiev, the Polish press has disclosed the role of Donald Tusk’s government in preparing the coup. The new revelations belie Western discourse and demonstrate that the current interim government of Oleksandr Tourtchynov was imposed by NATO in violation of international law.
(PIC: In his capacity as EU negotiator, Radosław Sikorski signed a crisis settlement agreement with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, in the evening of February 21, 2014. The following morning, the men he had secretly trained in Poland were about to take power.)
This article is based on information obtained by the Polish opposition. I erroneously cited as my source the satirical weeklyNie, which published a pastiche mixing truths and non-truths. The data it provides needs to be verified.
In any case, the matter concerning the training of Pravy Sector members has in the meantime been brought before the Attorney General of Poland.
Thierry Meyssan, April 22, 2014.
The Polish left-wing weekly Nie (No) published a startling witness account of the training given to the most violent of the EuroMaidan activists.
According to this source, in September 2013, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski invited 86 members of the Right Sector (Sector Pravy), allegedly in the context of a university exchange program. In reality, the guests were not students, and many were over 40. Contrary to their official schedule, they did not go to the Warsaw University of Technology, but headed instead for the police training center in Legionowo, an hour’s drive from the capital. There, they received four weeks of intensive training in crowd management, person recognition, combat tactics, command skills, behavior in crisis situations, protection against gases used by police, erecting barricades, and especially shooting, including the handling of sniper rifles.
Such training took place in September 2013, while the Maidan Square protests were allegedly triggered by a decree suspending preparations for the signing of the Ukraine-European Union Association Agreement, which was issued by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on November 21, i.e. two months later.
The Polish weekly refers to photographs attesting to the training, which show the Ukrainians in Nazi uniforms alongside their Polish instructors in civilian clothing.
These revelations warrant a fresh look at the resolution adopted in early December 2013 by the Polish Parliament (Sejm), pledging its “total solidarity with Ukrainian citizens who, with strong determination, are showing the world their desire to achieve the full membership of their country in the European Union.” Naturally, the MPs were not yet aware of their country’s involvement in the training of the very individuals who were planning – and ultimately achieved – a violent takeover of power.
This scandal illustrates the role assigned by NATO to Poland in Ukraine, analogous to the one entrusted to Turkey in Syria. The government of pro-European liberal Donald Tusk is fully committed to playing its role. Foreign Affairs Minister Radosław Sikorski – a journalist and former political refugee in the United Kingdom – was the mastermind behind Poland’s integration into NATO. As a member of the “Weimar Triangle”, he was one of three EU representatives who brokered the 21 February 2014 agreement between President Viktor Yanukovych and the three main EuroMaidan leaders . Needless to say, the Ukrainian president was unaware of the Polish representative’s entanglement with the rioters. As for the Interior Minister and special services coordinator, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz (the great grand-son of novelist Henryk Sienkiewicz, best known for Quo Vadis?), he co-founded the Office for State Protection (Urzd Ochrony Państwa), Poland’s current intelligence agency. He also co-created and served as vice-president of the Centre for Eastern Studies (Ośrodek Studiów Wschodnich), a national think-tank dealing with the situation in Eastern Europe and the Balkans, with particular emphasis on Ukraine and Turkey. It exerts a profound influence on the West’s perception of current events, through its agreements with Carnegie Foundation .
During Yulia Tymoshenko’s government (2007-2010), the current interim president of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tourtchynov, had served as intelligence chief and deputy prime minister. He liaised at the time with the Poles Donald Tusk (already Prime Minister), Radosław Sikorski (then Defense Minister) and Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz (director of the private intelligence firm ASBS Othago).
To overthrow the government of its neighbor state, Poland resorted to Nazi activists in the same way that Turkey uses Al-Qaeda to overthrow the Syrian government. Not only is it not surprising to see the current Polish authorities rely on the grand-children of the Nazis that the CIA tucked into the NATO Gladio network to fight against the Soviet Union, but we should also be reminded of the controversy which broke out in the 2005 Polish presidential election, when journalist and MP Jacek Kurski revealed that Józef Tusk, the grandfather of Donald Tusk, had intentionally enrolled in the Wehrmacht. After denying the facts, the Prime Minister finally admitted that his grandfather had indeed served in the Nazi army, but claimed he had been forcefully conscripted after the annexation of Danzig. A recollection that speaks volumes about how Washington selects its agents in Eastern Europe.
In summary, Poland trained a mob of thugs to overthrow the democratically-elected president of Ukraine and pretended he was subscribing to an appeasement agreement with him on 21 February 2014, while his rioters were in the process of seizing power.
Moreover, there is no doubt that the coup was sponsored by the United States, as evidenced by the telephone conversation between Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and Ambassador Geoffrey R. Pyatt . Similarly, it is clear that other NATO members, including Lithuania (in the past, Ukraine was dominated by the Polish-Lithuanian empire), and Israel in its capacity as a de facto member of its military command structure, took part in the coup . This arrangement suggests that NATO now runs a new Gladio network in Eastern Europe . In addition, following the coup, mercenaries working for Greystone Ltd., a subsidiary of Academi, were deployed in the country in coordination with the CIA .
These facts radically modify the perception that we may have had of the coup of 22 February 2014. They undermine the arguments provided supplied to the press by the U.S. Department of State (points 3 and 5 of the factsheet dated March 5) and constitute an act of war under international law. Therefore, the arguments peddled by the West regarding the ensuing the events, including the accession of Crimea to the Russian Federation and the current uprisings in East and South Ukraine, are null and void.

“BEFORE OUR EYES”: TOWARDS THE END OF U.S. PROPAGANDA
by Thierry Meyssan
VOLTAIRE NETWORK | DAMASCUS | 21 APRIL 2014
The Anglo-Saxon Empire is based on a century of propaganda. It managed to convince us that the United States is “the land of the free” and that it engaged in wars to defend its ideals. But the current crisis over Ukraine has changed the rules of the game. Now Washington and its allies are not the only speakers. Their lies are openly challenged by the government and media of another major state, Russia. In the era of satellites and the Internet, Anglo-Saxon propaganda no longer works.
(PIC: Barack Obama speaks well. In fact, President Obama does not write his own texts but spends his days reading speeches written on prompters for him. Meanwhile, others govern in his place.)
lers have always tried to convince their subjects of the correctness of their actions, because crowds never follow men they know to be bad. The twentieth century has seen new ways of spreading ideas unburdened by the truth. Westerners trace modern propaganda to Nazi minister Joseph Goebbels. It is a way to forget that the art of distorting the perception of things was previously developed by Anglo-Saxons.
In 1916, the United Kingdom created Wellington House in London, followed by Crewe House. Simultaneously, the United States created the Committee on Public Information (CPI). Considering the First World War was between masses and no longer between armies, these organizations tried to intoxicate their own people as well as those of their allies and those of their enemies with propaganda.
Modern propaganda started with the publication in London of the Bryce Report on German war crimes, which was translated into thirty languages. According to this document, the German army had raped thousands of women in Belgium. The British Army was thus fighting against barbarism. At the end of the First World War it was discovered that the entire report was a hoax, made up of false testimony with the help of journalists.
For his part, in the United States, George Creel invented a myth that World War II was a crusade by democracies for peace to protect the rights of humanity.
Historians have shown that World War I was responding to causes as deep and as profound, the most important being the competition between major powers to expand their colonial empires.
The British and U.S. bureaus were secret organizations working on behalf of their states. Unlike Leninist propaganda, which aspired to “reveal the truth” to the ignorant masses, the Anglo-Saxons sought to deceive in order to manipulate them. To this end, Anglo-Saxon state agencies had to hide and usurp false identities.
After the demise of the Soviet Union, the United States neglected propaganda and favoured public relations. It was no longer a matter of lying, but of holding journalists’ hands that they may see only what they are shown. During the Kosovo war, NATO appealed to Alastair Campbell, an adviser to the British Prime Minister to tell the press an uplifting dayly story. While journalists reproduced this story, the Alliance could bomb “in peace.” The story telling was less designed to lie than to distract.
However, story telling is back with a vengeance with the September 11 attacks : it consisted of focussing public attention on the attacks on New York and Washington so that people would not perceive the military coup organized that day : the transfer of the executive powers of President Bush to a secret military unit and the house arrest of all parliamentarians. This intoxication was especially the work of Benjamin Rhodes, now an adviser to Barack Obama.
In subsequent years, the White House installed a system of propaganda with key allies (the UK, Canada , Australia and of course Israel). Every day these four governments received instructions or pre-written speeches from the Office of global media to justify the war in Iraq or vilify Iran.
For the rapid spread of its lies since 1989, Washington relied on CNN. Over time, the United States created a cartel of satellite information (Al- Arabiya , Al- Jazeera , BBC , CNN, France 24 , Sky) channels. In 2011, during the bombing of Tripoli , NATO surprisingly convinced Libyans that they had lost the war and that it was useless to continue resisting. But in 2012, NATO failed to replicate this model and to convince the Syrians that their government would inevitably fall. This tactic failed because the Syrians were aware of the operation carried out by international television in Libya and were able to prepare . And this failure marked the end of the hegemony of the “information”cartel.
The current crisis between Washington and Moscow about Ukraine has forced the Obama administration to review its system. Indeed, Washington is now no longer the sole speaker, it must contradict the Russian government and media accessible anywhere in the world via satellite and Internet. Secretary of State John Kerry appointed a new deputy for propaganda, in the person of the former editor of Time Magazine, Richard Stengel . Before taking the oath on April 15, he was already occupying his office and, on March 5, sent a “fact sheet” to major Atlanticist media on “10 counter-truths” that Putin would have pronounced on the Ukraine . He reoffended on April 13 with a second sheet with “10 other counter-truths ” .
What strikes one in reading this prose is its ineptitude. It aims to validate the official history of a revolution in Kiev and discredit the Russian discourse on the Nazi presence in the new government. However, we know today that in fact this “revolution” was indeed a coup staged by NATO and implemented by Poland and Israel by mixing recipes for “color revolutions” and the “Arab spring”. Journalists who received these files and relayed them are fully aware of the recordings of telephone conversations between the Assistant Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland and Minister for Estonian Foreign Affairs, Urmas Paets, on how Washington would change the regime at the expense of the European Union, and on the true identities of the Maidan snipers. In addition, they learned later revelations of the Polish weekly Nie about the training two months before the events of the Nazi rioters at the Academy of Polish police. As to denying the presence of Nazis in the new Ukrainian government, this amounts to a claim that the night is luminous. It is not necessary to go to Kiev but just to read the writings of the current ministers or listen to their remarks to see this is the case.
Ultimately, if these arguments help give the illusion of a consensus in the large Atlanticist media, they have no chance of convincing curious citizens. Instead, it is so easy with the Internet to discover the deception that this type of manipulation cannot but further undermine Washington’s credibility.
The unanimity of the Atlanticist media on September 11 helped convince international public opinion, but the work done by many journalists and citizens, of which I was the precursor, showed the physical impossibility of the official version. Thirteen years later, hundreds of millions of people have become aware of these lies. This process will only grow with the new propaganda devices manipulated by the US. In short, all those who relay the arguments of the White House , including the governments and media of NATO, destroy their own credibility.
Barack Obama and Benjamin Rhodes , John Kerry and Richard Stengel act only in the short term. Their propaganda convinces the masses for only a few weeks and then helps create revulsion when the people understand they are being manipulated. Unwittingly, they undermine the credibility of the state institutions of NATO who consciously relay them. They forget that the propaganda of the twentieth century could only succeed because the world was divided into blocks that did not communicate with one another, and this monolithic principle is incompatible with the new means of communication.
The crisis in Ukraine is not over, but it has already profoundly changed the world : by publicly contradicting the President of the United States, Vladimir Putin has taken a step that henceforth prevents the success of U.S. propaganda.

IS CRIMEA’S SHIFT THE FIRST OF A LONG SERIES?
by Thierry Meyssan
VOLTAIRE NETWORK | DAMASCUS | 24 MARCH 2014
Beyond the emphatic cries of the West against the accession of the Crimea to the Russian Federation, the real issue is whether this is an orphan event or whether it foreshadows a turning of Eastern Europe toward Moscow. With only enslavement to the Brussels bureaucracy to offer, Brussels fears that its current clients may be attracted by Moscow’s freedom and money.
Westerners bellow to denounce the “military annexation” of the Crimea by Russia. According to them, Moscow, returning to the “Brezhnev doctrine” threatens the sovereignty of all States which were members not only of the former Soviet Union, but also of the Warsaw Pact, and is about to invade as it did in Hungary in 1956 and Czechoslovakia in 1968.
Is this true ? Obviously, the same Westerners are not convinced of the imminent danger. Though they equate the “annexation” of the Crimea by Vladimir Putin to that of the Sudetenland by Adolf Hitler, they do not think that we are heading towards a Third World War.
At most, they have enacted theoretical sanctions against some Russian leaders – including Crimean leaders – blocking their accounts in case they should wish to open such in Western banks, or prohibiting them from traveling there, in case they yearned to do so. True, the Pentagon has sent 22 fighter jets to Poland and the Baltic States, but it does not intend to do more than this posturing for the moment.
What exactly is happening ? Since the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989 and the Malta summit that followed on December 2 and 3, the United States has steadily gained ground, and in violation of their promises, have absorbed all Eastern European states – except Russia – into NATO. The process began a few days later, on Christmas 1989, with the overthrow of Ceausescu in Romania and his replacement by another communist dignitary suddenly converted to liberalism: Ion Iliescu. For the first time, the CIA organized a coup in broad daylight, while staging it as a “revolution” thanks to a new television channel, CNN International. This was the beginning of a long series.
Twenty other targets would follow, often by equally fraudulent means : Albania, East Germany , Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina , Bulgaria , Croatia , Estonia , Georgia , Hungary , Kosovo , Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova , Montenegro , Poland , Serbia , Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Ukraine.
No document was signed at the summit in Malta, but President Bush Sr. , advised by Condoleezza Rice, took the oral commitment that no member of the Warsaw Pact would be accepted into NATO. In reality, East Germany was de facto accepted, by its simple accession to West Germany. And the door being open, now 12 former USSR and Warsaw Pact member states acceded and others have been waiting to join the Alliance.
However, “all good things come to an end.” The power of NATO and its civil side, the European Union, is faltering. While the Alliance has never been so numerous , its armies are ineffective. It excels in small theaters of operation, such as Afghanistan, but can not go to war against China, or against Russia, without the certainty of losing as we have seen in Syria this summer.
Ultimately, Westerners are amazed at Russian speed and efficiency. During the Olympic Games in Sochi, Putin stoically uttered no comment on Maidan events. But he reacted when his hands were free. Everyone could see him playing cards he had prepared during his long silence. Within hours, the pro- Russian forces neutralized the pro-Kiev Crimea forces while a revolution was organized in Semferopol to bring to power a pro-Russian team. The new government called for a referendum on self-determination which saw a huge pro-Russian wave, Tatar population included. Then the official Russian forces captured the soldiers still loyal to Kiev with their equipment. All this without firing a shot, with the exception of a pro-NATO Ukrainian sniper who was arrested in Semferopol after killing a person from each side.
Twenty years ago, the same Crimeans would certainly have voted against Russia. But today, freedom is better provided by Moscow than by Kiev, where a third of the government has gone back to the Nazis and the other two thirds to the representatives of the oligarchs. In addition, their bankrupt economy was immediately underwritten by the Bank of Russia, while, despite the IMF and loans from the U.S. and EU, Kiev is sentenced to a long period of poverty. It was not necessary to speak Russian to make that choice and, despite Western propaganda, Muslim Tatars did so as well as Russian speakers. This is also the choice of 88 % of Ukrainian troops stationed in the Crimea, who rallied with Moscow with the intention of bringing their families and getting their Russian citizenship. It is also the choice of 82 % of Ukrainian sailors who were at sea, too happy to be Russians, they rallied to Moscow with their ships without being forced in any way.
Freedom and prosperity that were selling in the West for almost 70 years, have changed sides.
This is not to say that Russia is perfect, but to note that for Crimeans and in reality for most Europeans, it is more attractive than the Western camp.
That is why the independence of the Crimea and its accession to the Russian Federation marked the return of the pendulum. For the first time, an ex-Soviet people freely decided to recognize the authority of Moscow. What Westerners fear is that this event is comparable to the fall of the Berlin Wall in effect, but in the other direction. Why would we not see among the member states of NATO -like Greece – or simply in the European Union – like Cyprus – some that would follow the same path ? The Western camp would then disagregate and sink into a very deep recession – like Yeltsin’s Russia -.
In addition, the question of the survival of the United States would inevitably arise. The dissolution of the USSR should have caused that of its enemy and nonetheless partner, however, these two superpowers existing only to face one another. But it did not happen. Washington, being deprived of its competitor, launched into world conquest, globalized the economy and installed a new order. It took two years and one month for the Soviet Union to dissolve after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Will we soon see the dissolution of the United States and the European Union into several entities, as theorized by Igor Panarin of the Diplomatic Academy in Moscow ? The collapse would be even faster as Washington reduced its subsidies to its allies and its Brussels Structural Funds.
Nobody should fear the attractiveness of Russia, because it is an imperial power but not imperialist. If Moscow tends to snub small countries it protects, it does not intend to extend its hegemony by force. Its military strategy is the “denial of access” to its territory. Its armies are the first in the world in terms of anti-aircraft and anti-ship defense. They can destroy fleets of bombers and aircraft carriers. But they are not equipped to set out to conquer the world, or deployed in quantities of external bases.
It is particularly strange to hear Westerners denounce membership of Crimea to Russia as contrary to international law and the Constitution of Ukraine. Is it not they who dismembered the USSR and the Warsaw Pact ? Is it not they who broke the constitutional order in Kiev ?
German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, deplores alleged Russian will to “cut Europe in two.” But Russia got rid of the Soviet bureaucratic dictatorship and does not intend to restore the Iron Curtain. It is the United States who wants to cut Europe in two to avoid hemoraging to the east. The new bureaucratic dictatorship is not in Moscow but in Brussels, it is called the European Union.
Henceforth, Washington is trying to bind its allies to its camp. It extends its missile cover to Poland, Romania and Azerbaijan. It is no longer a mystery that its “shield” was never intended to counter Iranian missiles, but is designed to attack Russia. It also tries to push its European allies to take economic sanctions that would cripple the continent and would push capital to flee… to the United States .
The magnitude of these adjustments is such that the Pentagon is examining the possibility of interrupting its “pivot to the Far East”, that is to say, the movement of its troops from Europe and the Middle East to position them for a war against China. Anyway, any change in its long-term strategy will disrupt its armies even in the short and medium term. Moscow did not ask for as much, and voluptuously observes the reactions of populations of eastern Ukraine and, why not, Transnistria.
UKRAINE, PALESTINE, SYRIA: JOHN KERRY HAS A TACTIC, NOT A POLICY
by Thierry Meyssan
In the globalized world, every conflict is linked to the others. So what is happening now in Ukraine is reflected in other regions. For Thierry Meyssan, Washington’s rantings are not intended to make war with Moscow, but to urge Europeans to cut off their arm to the greatest US advantage. Similarly, the abandonment of the Geneva process can be a way to sidestep Saudi interests and focus on a settlement in Palestine.
VOLTAIRE NETWORK | DAMASCUS | 18 MARCH 2014
Secretary of State John Kerry (here during his stopover in Rome) has no predefined policy. He takes the initiative on all subjects, not to achieve decisive victories, but to find opportunities to advance his pawns. Thus, having supported the the CIA coup in Ukraine, he is now not concerned about the future of the Crimea, but how his overall economic plan can benefit from his local political defeat.
Three events have upset the international scene : on the one hand, the crisis between the West and Russia over Ukraine, on the other hand, the secret war that the Gulf states have declared against each other, finally the adoption by the Council of the Syrian people of an electoral law which de facto excludes the candidacies of citizens who fled the country during the war.
The United States had planned a fourth event, a “color revolution” in Venezuela, but the opposition has failed to rally popular support. It will play this card later.
Washington wants to turn its defeat in Ukraine into a victory for its economy
The crisis in Ukraine was prepared and implemented by the West. It took the form of a coup against the background of TV violence. Russia responded with skill, following the strategy of Sun Tzu, taking the Crimea without a fight and leaving the country’s economic and political problems to its opponents. Despite the rantings of Brussels and Washington, Westerners will not take a second shot and will not impose any significant economic sanctions against Moscow : The EU exports 7 % of its production to Russia (123 billion euros in machine tools, automobiles, chemicals …) and imports 12% of its goods (mainly hydrocarbons EUR 215 billion). The United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and France would be particularly affected. Citibank is largely financed by Russian assets that are beginning to evaporate, as shown by an internal memo from Downing Street photographed by the British press. Companies such as BP, Shell, Eni, Volkswagen, Continental, Siemens, Deutsche Telecom, Reiffsen, Unicredit and certainly many others – would go under. In the United States, the situation is better, but some multinationals, such as the second largest company in the country, Exxon, have substantial assets in Russia.
Anyway, Washington uses very strong language that will require it to react. Everything is happening as though the coup had been prepared by the radicals of the regime (Victoria Nuland, John McCain … ) and had initially embarrassed President Obama, but it offered an unexpected opportunity to resolve his economic crisis at the expense of his allies : the unrest in Ukraine, if it spreads to economic or policy scenes in Europe, will push capital currently based on the old continent to Wall Street. This would be the application of both the 1992 Wolfowitz doctrine (prevent the EU from becoming a potential competitor of the United States) and the theory of Christina Romer, 2009 (save the U.S. economy by absorption European capital as at the end of the 1929 crisis). That is why we should expect a suspension of diplomatic relations between Washington and Moscow, ostensibly at least, and a sharp recession in Europe in 2014.
Under these conditions, it is not clear how a general agreement for peace in the Middle East could be implemented, at a time when each piece of the board was about to fall into place. As of now, the Geneva 3 project for Syria is suspended indefinitely. Meanwhile, the Israeli-Palestinian “peace”, which had advanced with the return of Mohamed Dahlan, was torpedoed by the Arab League which opposes for the time being – recognition of Israel as a “Jewish state .”
The Gulf States are tearing each other apart over the Muslim Brotherhood
Another new element: the secret war that the Gulf States are now waging amongst themselves. Qatar supported an attempted coup of the Muslim Brotherhood in the UAE in November. The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain recently suspended diplomatic relations with Qatar and the Saudis sponsored a bombing in Doha. Qatar does not seem ready to give up on the Muslim Brotherhood for which Washington had organized the “Arab Spring” before dropping it.
The policies of the Gulf States have become an unlikely bag of knots insofar as operetta monarchs mix their state interests with their personal ambitions and worldly affinities. Forgotten are the anathemas between the Servant-of-the-Two-Holy-Mosques and the Guide of the Iranian Revolution, who negotiate their reconciliation, the quarrel of the day revolves around the Muslim Brotherhood, considered not as an ideological movement, but as a playing card.
Syria no longer wants to negotiate peace with the Saudis
The third new element is the deliberation, televised by the People’s Council (Parliament) of the next Syrian election law. MEPs finally adopted a provision stating that candidates for President must have lived in the country for the past ten years. This provision de facto excludes citizens who fled Syria during the war.
The Special Envoy of the Secretaries General of the Arab League and the UN, Lakhdar Brahimi, immediately declared that this choice might terminate the process of a negotiated resolution of the conflict. France has submitted a draft statement to the Security Council to revive the Geneva process . Although there is no mention of the new electoral law, this is the last Western attempt to consider war in Syria as a “revolution” and to consider peace as an agreement between Damascus and a dummy opposition entirely in the hands of Saudi Arabia. The former spokesman for the Syrian National Council, Basma Kodmani , who was kidnapped in a Saudi embassy, assured that the “Damascus regime” would not be able to hold the presidential election and proposed to consider this failure in time of war as proof that it is a dictatorship. NATO could thus return to the front of the stage and finish with Bashar al-Assad as planned since 2003 and this despite the missed opportunities represented by the “massacres” of 2011 and the “chemical bombardment” of 2013. However, after being reconciled with Riyadh , organizing Geneva 2 at its own discretion, Washington is losing interest anew in the Saudis¹ Syrian collaborators.
If there is no Geneva 3, the West will either attack Syria (which is no more possible than to take the Crimea, as we have already seen this summer), or let the situation rot for a decade, or even to claim that the “Revolution” was co-opted by the jihadists and admit that the war is now a question of interest for global anti-terrorism.
John Kerry, who is more of a businessman than a diplomat, has no pre-established policy, just tactics. As usual, Washington will not choose one option over another, but will make every effort to favor an outcome that is preferable to it while pursuing other options, just in case. No longer able to negotiate with Russia, it will do so with the other military ally of Syria, Iran. For a year now, the State Department has held talks with the Islamic Republic, first secretly in Oman, and officially with the new President, Rohani. But things are colliding with the Khomeiniists who do not talk to imperialists, they fight them to the death. Given Iran’s internal contradictions, Washington has increased its advances and retreats, progressing less quickly than expected.
Though there is no urgency for the United States to resolve the Syrian issue, it is on the contrary vital to otherwise ensure the perpetuation of the Jewish settlement of Palestine. In this regard, Iran has again drawn the State Department’s attention to the influence that it can exert: on its orders, the Islamic Jihad abruptly bombarded the Israeli border. Tehran, which had been excluded from Geneva 2, has invited itself to something far more important : regional negotiations. In this state of mind, the U.S. Senate will hold a hearing on “Syria after Geneva² in ten days. The wording suggests that the extension of this “peace conference” has been ruled out. Senators will not hear experts from Israeli think tanks in Washington, as they usually do when it comes to the Middle East, but the file holder at the State Department , their best guerrilla strategist and one of their two leading experts on Iran.
Ultimately, regional “peace”, if it should occur, can only be as imagined by John Kerry : sacrificing the Palestinian people rather than the Jewish colony. Hassan Nasrallah warned against this injustice, but who will oppose it now that the main Palestinian leaders have betrayed their constituents ?
