Letter from Taybeh: Palm Sunday Greetings from the West Bank

Hosanna in the highest, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

Dear Friends of Saint George Taybeh,

Today we celebrated a glorious Holy Palm Sunday with a beautiful ecumenical procession with all three of our church communities marching in the streets of the village leading to the 4th century Byzantine ruins of St. George Church. So many smiles on children’s faces marching with the scouts reminded me how badly we need normality in our lives.

We pray and hope all of you are well and we appreciate your prayers for peace in the Holy Land.

Although it is so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel because of the ongoing occupation and violence, we will be reminded again this Holy Saturday of the True Light of Christ and the genuine message of eternal life that comes annually from Jerusalem with the Miracle of the Holy Fire which we so anxiously and prayerfully await.

We wish all of our friends celebrating the Great and Holy Pascha, a blessed Holy Week and glorious Resurrection.

It is the greatest blessing in the world to be writing to you from the very same area where our Lord spent time right after He raised Lazarus from the dead and before the glorious entry into Jerusalem. Indeed this land has been made holy by Christ Himself and living in Biblical Ephraim, our modern Taybeh allows me to give glory to God every day.

“To Thee belongeth all glory, O Lord our God”

With sincere good wishes and prayers on this most holy day,

Maria Khoury
