Cancer and cancer related illnesses have touched many families and friends in our community. Tuesday the 31st of May was a special occasion where 200 ladies gathered together from the entire Greek Community in Perth for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. What better way to spend a Tuesday morning than amongst family and friends in an environment of sharing and giving.
Over the past decade, members from various women associations in Perth and our local parishes, under the leadership of Mrs Evelyn Palassis, have been coming together to host Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. These have included the Parishes of Sts Constantine and Helene, St Nektarios, and Evangelismos as well as the Australasian Hellenic Educational Progressive Association, Daughters of Penelope, The Hellenic Women’s Association of WA, The Castellorizian Ladies Association of WA ‘Megisti”, The Central Philoptohos of St. Tabitha and Nola Pilkadaris.
Up until now, this event has raised over $115,000 in which all proceeds have been donated to the Cancer Council of WA for vital research.
This year’s event included delicious food and beverages, door prizes, spot prizes and numerous raffles. The morning commenced with a blessing from the Very Rev. Archimandrite Elpidios Karalis who also reminded everyone during the drawing of the raffle that each person was a winner just by attending this very special event.
This year’s morning tea even gave the opportunity for some to open up and share with others their stories of loved ones who had suffered from cancer; some even shedding a tear.
It was truly a beautiful morning and an event not to be missed next year. A great way to come together as a community and support this important cause.
